Christmas Countdown

Whew...getting close now, huh?! I'm still drowning in to-do lists, baking an unnatural amount of cookies, all the while, trying to save time to reflect upon the REAL reason for this holiday, and teach my children that it's NOT all about Santa and gifts, Rudolph and Frosty. And so I present to you, a Santa Countdown. ??? My kids are well aware of the Baby Jesus' birthday, the manger, the three wise men - I've got the armless angel and one handed shepherd, wise man, and Mary underneath our tree to prove it. But let's face it, Santa is a pretty big part of Christmas too. Before another day passed by, I wanted to share a quick project we do in our house every year to count down to Christmas Day. I've made this cotton ball bearded Santa since my elementary school days, but this year, I found this cute poem on Pinterest to go along with it! I love it!
I was going to print the poem out in a cute font, and glue it to some pretty paper, etc etc...but then I thought, DUH! I'll just write it on my chalkboard fridge! (In case you missed my tutorial on my chalkboard fridge, you can read about it here.) Worked like a charm, and so quick! (I ended up changing a few words from the Pinterest version, for those observant people who picked up on that!;). To make the Santa, I just took a piece of poster board and drew a Santa (best I could do - lucky for me, my kids aren't too critical of my artistic (in)ability! ;) I glued red construction paper on for the hat.

The kids have been having a lot of fun taking turns gluing each cotton ball on. Such anticipation and excitement in their little faces. What's better than a kid at Christmastime? NOTHING!
