For fun, before we go any further, let's take a stroll down Memory Lane. Here's that exact angle as it looked when we bought this house:
Sweeeet. And that was actually after the bulkheads were removed, so we had already started working on it at this point. Here are some more shots, of the kitchen over the past 5 years...
And now...
In case you missed the posts of the various projects, here they are...
1. Removing cabinet fronts to make open shelves, and adding molding onto the tops
2. Making a magnetic chalkboard fridge
3. Chalkboard menu (just chalkboard paint with molding nailed around as a border)
5. Beadboard wallpaper backsplash
6. Making chalkboard labels for plain canisters
7. Painting our kitchen island
8. DIY no-sew fabric stool covers
9. Yard sale find turned spice rack
There's been a LOT of love poured into this kitchen in the short time we've lived here, and as much as I loved my red kitchen, I'm in LOVE with my new bright kitchen. Had no idea just how dark it was until this makeover! There's a lot to be said for color affecting our moods - I mean, take a look at me when this all started!
| AHHHHH!!!! Armed and dangerous |
But now I'm relaxing in my updated kitchen and happy as can be...

One last look just because I'm lovin' it so...
So that's the latest on the kitchen! One of these days when I get to the last remaining projects, I'll be sure to share them with you. Thanks for coming along on this kitchen journey with me!

Its absolutely gorgeous! Its so much brighter now and I love the teal and the red accents. Fabulous job!
Wow, it looks great! Now I'm inspired to paint...*gasp*.. white. I never thought I'd hear such words uttered from my mouth.
One question though about the open cabinets. Where you you keep all of your ugly dishes, containers, etc? It looks like you have about the same amount of storage space that we do in our kitchen and it's overflowing with stuff I don't neccesarily want to look at all day.
I love it! It's so bright and cheerful and cottage-y. You did a beautiful job and I love your taste!
Lookin' good girly...love,love,love the colors!
Jess
Thank you all!! Tiffany, I only opened the one wall - there are still a few cabinets in there that have the doors on...for that very reason;) I hide all the unsightly dishes in there! lol! I did do a purge on extra dishes we didn't need, so we only have ones we use all the time in there.
It looks so awesome Liz! I just absolutely love the red and aqua accent colors.
I am so excited for you that it's done. I am sure you love cooking even more now with that kitchen!
Hope you had a nice weekend!
Your kitchen is absolutely adorable! Thanks for sharing the before and after pictures, you have great ideas!
Love it so much! Our kitchens have so many similarities! (Don't you LOVE the beadboard backsplash!?) I wish I could find a place to put a chalkboard but so far I haven't found the right place. Oh well. Enjoy your new kitchen!
BEAUTIFUL! COLORS ARE SO NICE!
I love this ! I've been following you for a little while now, and you've inspired me to go for open shelves v. closed cabinets when we redo our kitchen, and for a light, bright an airy palette ... LOVE IT.
Wow! Your kitchen is gorgeous! I love how bright and cheerful it is. If this was my kitchen, I think I'd smile every time I walked in there (and definitely feel motivated to keep it clean).
Just found your blog. LOVE LOVE LOVE the name of it. Most of my projects are what can happen in a naptime, so I can totally relate! Great work on the kitchen!
Amazing! A huge transformation. Love all the details and touches and the color combination is so fresh and young ...

(And I chuckled a bit when I saw the red and yellow version because I did the same color combo in my kitchen about a decade ago .... :)

Oh my gosh! This is gorgeous! I love your new kitchen. It makes me want to get to work on mine TODAY!! lol. I have dark colors in my kitchen and hate it. I can't wait to finally work on it. Thanks for sharing!!
Liz, I am here applauding you and your great and daring design. What fun colors and so many redos in one space. The change is dramatic and you are amazing to have accomplished all that. I hope you'll stop in and see me at Quirky Vistas sometime. I just painted my living room tables aqua and that change was quite daring for me. You really cut loose! Love it!

I just happened upon your blog via pinterest and loved your island. Did you build it or buy it? If you built it can you tell me where you got the plans? Thanks
Thank you so much!! Cheryl, we bought it at a place in Eldersburg, MD called Bare Wood House. It was unfinished, so we had them stain the top, and we painted the base.
Love how much brighter it looks! Fab :) Visiting from the Picket Fence!
I was away on vaca for the BIG REVEAL. Sorry I missed it. You did pour so much into this transformation and it looks amazing. So different. The white is perfect with the just right pops of color =) Congrats on your beautiful new space Liz!! It's fantastic!

Your new kitchen looks great! What type of flooring did you use?
Thank you!! Gosh, we got it so long ago (that was one of the first things to change when we moved in 6 years ago:) - it's a laminate sheet that looks like tile.
LOVE your kitchen and the color combos! Thanks for linking up and linking back!
Beautiful kitchen! You did an amazing, beautiful job! So pretty and fresh!
We've been looking for an option to put an over-the-stove nuker but our older cabinets wouldn't support, as installing one would only leave about 15" from microwave bottom to stove top. Really like this alternative!
Question - what is directly above the microwave? A shelf? Or just the top of the microwave?
Curious, as we think we'll go with something like this.
Great job,
Chris
