But this year? Not feelin' it so much.
Not sure if it's the weather - it's a sweaty 92 right now in Maryland. Just had the kids in the pool this morning for crying out loud.
Or the fact that we had such an awesome summer and I'm getting a little bummed to end it.
Or it means that Crocs season is going bye-bye and I'm going to have to start putting SOCKS on these children (haven't since April, no joke). Not a fan of sorting socks when doing laundry. Especially when those 6 darling feet are all pretty similar in size...
Or maybe it's that the family room is going through a major overhaul and all my energy is focused on getting that room in shape, that I just don't have the motivation to go decorating all the other rooms with Fall stuff.
Or maybe, could it be, that this will be the first Fall season that our home does not have those rich, cozy, fall-ish colors in every room?! What screams spring and summer doesn't exactly lend itself to Fall!
Uh-oh!
I mean, does this room scream Fall and pumpkins to you?!
Or this one?
Let's take a look at some of last years' Fall decor pics from the blog...back when the dining room all was black furniture and deep gold walls...
Yes, that look was perfect for fall! And the old kitchen was great too. Course, along the same lines, the old look of my house was always difficult to decorate in the spring and summer months! Could never get excited about the pretty pastels and light airy look of Easter/Spring decor then.
Don't go thinking I have one single ounce of regret though! I ADORE the changes I made, and can deal with the un-Fall-like colors right now;) Will I still break out the pumpkins and candy corn, even amidst the aqua china cabinet? Of course! Because I'd rather be fun and decorate for my kids who love it, than worry about it matching paint colors. Although I might have to wait a few more weeks until it actually drops below 80 degrees...
Oh, and if you're curious how I feel about Christmas and winterizing this joint? Oh I'm not worried about that at all - already have that one figured out;). Going to go all silver and white, with some blue...picture snowflakes and white candles...it'll work out just fine. As far as the kitchen...um, can we say CANDY CANES?! The red accents in there will definitely not be a problem come December:)
So how about you? Has your decor ever played a part in your holiday decorating? Do you have a lot of cozy dark colors that just work splendidly in the fall and winter, but have a little trouble in the hot summertime? Or vice versa, like me? Where your house has a light and bright feel that's just great in the warmer months, but have a hard time cozy-ing it up when it's pumpkin time? Curious to know! Or am I just a total whacko who thinks about these sorts of things waaaay too much?! WAIT - PLEASE do not answer that!!!! Must just be the primer going to my head;)
Have a great weekend! XOXO

I know EXACTLY what you mean! My house is all neutral browns and golds, which lend itself perfectly to fall decor, but difficult for the others. I've been using the purple/dark brown/turquoise peacock theme for Christmas and that works pretty well. But my backyard is done up like a Mexican restaurant/beach hut and looks ridiculous in the winter. lol. LOOOOOOVE the new cool colors, btw!
Two words girl, "White Pumkins."
My house is beige with a red accent wall around our fireplace and burgandy curtains... I LOVE it, especially around fall and Christmas!! However, in the spring and summer it can be drab for sure, so we just change our curtains seasonally to help with that. I also agree WHITE PUMPKINS with some fun goards(?).
I agree with white pumpkins, you can just spray paint pumpkins white too!!! Pottery barn always seems to avoid the fall color look in its catalogs so you can borrow ideas there.
Someone took the words right out of my mouth! WHITE PUMPKINS! and White and green gords, and Burlap (your fav right??)

I really have done my mantle for fall because I thought I'd give it a try for once. I'm usually avoiding it and waiting for Christmas. However, Pinterest started with the fall pins in August so it got me excited. :) I also know what you mean about socks...I had that battle the other day. No fun.
Feeling the same about summer ending :( I think the orange and blue will look good! White pumpkins, I've also seen pumpkins covered in different light colored papers (Martha Steward).
my colors are light - pale turquoise, apple green... but for fall i am doing deep turquoise, bronze and cream. it's an alternative to the traditional but will probably work well! i tyicaly don't decorate too terribly much for fall, mostly because i don't like the traditional colors, but a few little accents here and there make it feel fallish - even in the deep south! where it's 100 degrees all week!
You're an amazing decorator, I'm sure whatever you figure out for fall will look amazing!
This is one of my favorite blogs to read! It's like you're in my head! I just did a post about how I'm fighting to not put out fall decor since it's still so hot! Fall is my favorite time of year and my entire house is dark woods and gold tone paint (im in the process of redecorating every room to change that!). I'm so ready for the smell of pumpkin spice and cool weather!
Also, how did you make the ghosts!?!
The ghost info is in this link:) http://naptimedecorator.blogspot.com/2011/10/thrifty-halloween-decor.html
